Positive Effect of Influencers
Positive Effect of Influencers
A lot of people think that advertisements created like Nike in negative ways. People might think that they are doing because of their profits or to attract the consumer’s attention by dealing with the controversial topics. However, I think Nike has shown a great example of using the clout. Nike has supported the minorities to speak out and have a louder voice. For some of the people who assert that Nike’s main goal is to turn to profit, I literally want to ask that “who wants to take a risk for a profit?” Since they have supported the minorities, they had a lot of risky situations to deal with the opponents such as Donald Trump, the president of USA. What I want to say is that taking the risk for a profit doesn’t make sense. It means Nike actually cares about the obvious sensitive issues such as racial injustice seriously and they have affected positively through the creative advertisements. They are no provocative or incendiary but righteous. Most of the related people could think about it as a facade but I don’t. As a consumer, as an Asian, as a feminist, and as a coloured person, I would say that it is not a facade and Nike have been taking righteousness to change the world. I personally think that popular, well-known brands or celebrities are responsible for showing the righteousness and affect positively to the society. Thus, I want a lot of people and influencers in this world to support and help minorities for the better society and also for the peace around the world. Thank you!

I agree with most of the post, however, I still believe that Nike's main goal was to profit. I can see the intention and the viewpoint behind the advertisement, but we have to remember that Nike is a business. They wouldn't do risky decisions like this unless they would benefit and profit from it. Nike has investors and shareholders that are paying money for the success of the company. They would be against decisions that are out of the blue and super risky. It is evident that this advertisement has received plenty of thought and careful planning. Nike knew that they would lose some customers, however, they also expected consumers that agree with them to support them, making the wins outweigh the losses. In the end, this was a business decision with an important and thoughtful message.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Dain. Nike has always used coloured people in their advertisements, not to turn a profit, but to have equal representation of all races. Nike took a huge risk in hiring Colin Kaepernick for their brand especially after the controversy surrounding his protest. Nike's well thought out and smart marketing strategy resulted in people talking about the issue Kaepernick stood up for. Thus, I also believe Nike's intentions were to make a statement and to raise awareness about the issue at hand.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you're saying. Even though it may seem that Nike is using this as an opportunity to make profit, they are also taking a huge risk in doing this. Some stopped buying Nike products and even destroyed their current possessions while the others supported them for touching this issue. As they are a company after all, I believe that they still want some revenue from this campaign. It is nice of them, however, to give people like Kaepernick a larger audience to relay this important message. Overall, I believe that while Nike was using their large audience as a way of conveying this message, I still think that they wanted some profit out of it as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your perspective on Nike wanting to promote a positive message through an already well known controversy and being able to create profit, but I think that the main objective for Nike was publicity. The brand does represent equality through their advertisements and commercials, but I think that this message will always be relevant. Therefore, they could have created and released similar videos earlier in time. This does not I mean that Nike does not support the fight against inequality because they also took a risk in sharing their voice on this issue, but I think that they strategized their timing so that more people would see their videos, resulting in publicity and profit.
